Kawa well targeting oil offshore Guyana
TORONTO, Canada – The semisub Maersk Discoverer has spud the
Kawa-1 exploration well offshore Guyana for CGX Energy and Frontera Energy.
Kawa-1 is in the Corentyne block, 200 km (124 mi) offshore
Guyana in 355 m (1,174 ft) water depth, with a planned TD of 6,685 m (21,932
ft) likely to be reached this December.
The well is targeting light oil in combination
structural-stratigraphic traps in large Santonian and Campanian slope fan
complexes. The main target is a Santonian sand with updip and lateral pinchout
of the reservoir, and drilling should also penetrate secondary objectives in a
shallower Campanian sand and a deeper Santonian sand.
Stacked targets are thought to be analogous to the
discoveries in adjacent Block 58 offshore Suriname.
CGX/Frontera also have an option to use the same rig for a
second well.
