Gary Busey Faces Charges of Criminal Sexual Misconduct and Harassment
During the weekend of August 12 to August 14, 2022, actor Gary Busey was in Cherry Hill, NJ attending the fan-fueled, horror-themed Monster-Mania Convention Center at the Doubletree Hotel.
Somewhere around this
time, Cherry Hill police responded to a report of a sex offense at the hotel
after receiving multiple complaints involving at least two victims.
After investigating the incident, detectives charged the
Silver Bullet actor on four offenses: two counts of criminal sexual contact in
the fourth degree, one count of attempting criminal sexual contact in the
fourth degree and one disorderly conduct count of harassment.
The 78-year-old Busey was booked as a guest for Monster-Mania,
along with other actors like Ralph Macchio, Tom Skerritt and Veronica
Cartwright. The Buddy Holly Story star has attended prior Monster-Mania events
in the past. While representatives for Busey have not commented, Cherry Hill
Police Lt. Robert Scheunemann told the newspaper,
“It was about contact. It was about touching.”
Monster Mania Convention LLC, in a statement released
through a lawyer, said it was aware of an incident between an "attendee
and a celebrity guest" and was cooperating with investigating authorities.
“Immediately upon receiving a complaint from the attendee,
the celebrity guest was removed from the convention and instructed not to
return. Monster-Mania also encouraged the attendees to contact the police to
file a report."
