Meet Billionaire Behind Westlands Delta Corner Building

Nairobi's skyline has changed over the years. Today, magnificent skyscrapers welcome you to Kenya's capital, Nairobi, the city under the sun.

In particular, Westlands has become home to dotting iconic buildings, with a number of international companies setting up their regional offices in the business hub. Located close to the Chiromo/Westlands ring road, is a magnificent 19-storey twin tower complex that one can't afford to miss.

According to Knight Frank's official site, the twin tower embodies a modern office complex that offers a high-quality business environment.

From 2 levels of the clubhouse to 2 basement parking levels, the building consists of amenities such as a fire alarm and detection system, high-end restaurants, three-phase power, a direct link from main fibre optic and access control and CCTV surveillance.

The billionaire behind the building is a globally known tycoon and the wealthiest person in India since 2008, Mukesh Ambani. According to Forbes, the business mogul's net worth is Ksh9.9 trillion ($86.7 billion) as of March 13, 2022. His insurmountable success is linked to his multi-billion company- Reliance Industries.

His story dates back to April 1957 in Yemen, previously known as Aden. Ambani lived in Yemen for a few years before his family moved to India where he attended Hill Grange High School. He later joined St Xavier's College in Mumbai and pursued a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.

Ambani later enrolled for a Masters in Business Administration but dropped out to help set up his late father Dhirubhai Ambani's company- Reliance company which at the time was a rapidly growing business.

In the 1980s, Ambani aided his father to run the family business which later diversified from textile manufacturing to petrochemicals, oil and gas, telecommunication, and retail.

The company later morphed into one of the largest retailers in India. However, in 2002, after his father's death, Ambani and his younger sibling Anil took over its leadership.

Determined to keep his father's dream alive, Ambani led the company to huge success- developing the world's largest grassroots petroleum refinery in India.

The company currently makes Ksh8.4 trillion ($74 billion) in revenue according to Forbes.

Ambani has also diversified his business interest into the communication business whereby he established Rio- one of Reliance's subsidiary companies. In 2020, he made more than Ksh2.2 trillion ($20 billion) selling a third of the Rio company to a string of tech giant investors, such as Facebook and Google.

His social class of friends list includes a who's who including Facebook mogul and founder, Mark Zukerberg and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman.

The business magnate has also invested in Africa- with the Delta Corner Tower among his projects. Ambani is reported to have sold the building in 2014 to consultancy firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) and the University of Nairobi’s Staff Pension Scheme for an average of Ksh4 billion.
