Exiled Russian oligarch Khodorkovsky: Putin doesn't have much time left

Mikhail Khodorkovsky is one of the most famous critics of Vladimir Putin, with the former oil tycoon having even spent a decade in prison in Russia during Putin's presidency.

The exiled Russian oligarch has spoken about the current invasion of Ukraine and about Putin's reasoning in an interview, suggesting that now is the time to act to end his reign.

"I'm convinced he is the enemy of humankind," Khodorkovsky told CNN.

"He is my personal enemy and I think he should be the enemy of any normal human being.

"We can see the clinical signs of paranoia. We can see a man who is afraid of his own entourage, but that doesn't mean he's not still dangerous.

"I'm convinced that Putin hasn't got much time left. Maybe a year, maybe three.

"What he's done in Ukraine has significantly reduced his chances of remaining in power much longer.

"We no longer think he'll be around another decade, which we thought a year ago."

Discussing the conflict in Ukraine further, Khodorkovsky believes Putin underestimated the mission.

"I think Putin thought he would be met with flowers in Ukraine, that they'd want him to liberate them from so-called Nazis," the exiled oligarch added.

"By invading Ukraine, Putin became a criminal."
