Body of missing California woman Sara Celeste Otero found at Camp Pendleton

The body of missing California woman Sara Celeste Otero has been found at the bottom of cliffs in a restricted area of a major Marine base, police said Wednesday.

The 28-year-old — who had been missing for nearly two weeks — was discovered after her car was spotted abandoned in a rest stop off the side of a road near Camp Pendleton, a spokesperson for Oceanside police confirmed to The Post.

“Her body was found a short time later at the bottom of cliffs in a restricted area,” the spokesperson said of the Marine Corps base about 45 miles north of San Diego.

The body was confirmed to be Otero, the spokesperson said, stressing that foul play is not suspected.

“She appears to have left her car and wandered into the restricted area,” the spokesperson said, adding that the medical examiner has yet to rule on the exact cause of death.

Otero’s body was lifted from the cliffs by a helicopter, officers told KUSI reporter Hunter Sowards, who first broke the tragic news. It was not immediately clear if the Marines were involved in the operation.

Police had been hunting for Otero since Jan. 28, when she disappeared after telling her stepfather she was going to the gym.

Her family had admitted fears that she had harmed herself, telling Fox News that she had a history of drug abuse, but had been sober for two years.

Her stepbrother, Ryan Bear, also said this week that Otero had a history of depression, but that things had been “starting to look up” after she met a new boyfriend.

Otero “had vocalized that things were starting to look up and that she had reasons to live and things were improving,” Bear told the Independent.
