Block 58 partners discover fifth oilfield offshore Suriname
PARIS, France – TotalEnergies and APA Corp. have discovered
more oil and associated gas in deepwater in block 58, offshore Suriname.
The Krabdagu-1 well, drilled by the drillship Maersk Valiant
in 780 m (2,559 ft) of water in the central area of the block 58, delivered
around 90 m (295 ft) of net oil pay in good-quality Maastrichtian and Campanian
reservoirs.
Krabdagu-1 is 18 km (11.2 mi) southeast of the Sapakara
South-1 appraisal wells. Sapakara, Maka, Kwaskwasi and Keskesi were the
previous discoveries on the block.
Kevin McLachlan, senior vice president–exploration at
TotalEnergies, described the latest result as “a significant addition to the
discovered resources in the central area.” The partners plan at least three
more exploration and appraisal wells on the block in 2022 with a view to
proving sufficient resources by year end 2022 for a first oil development.
In the meantime, drilling and logging operations will
continue on Krabdagu-1, including a drillstem test to appraise the resources
and reservoir productivity.
