Serbia revokes Rio Tinto’s licences

After weeks of protests over plans for a lithium mine, Serbia has canceled Anglo-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto's exploratory licenses.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated that, "all permits were annulled... we put an end to Rio Tinto in Serbia." The conclusion comes just weeks before Serbia's April general election.

Connections between Belgrade and Canberra have lately deteriorated due to Australia's mistreatment of Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic and his expulsion.

Djokovic, the world's top male tennis star who was ineligible to participate in the Australian Open, has backed and assisted the disputed anti-mine protests.
