Maersk owner acquires medical diagnostic services provider Unilabs
A.P. Moller Holding, owner of Danish shipping giant Maersk,
announced on Friday the acquisition of Unilabs, a leading European provider of
medical diagnostic services, including COVID-19 testing.
The acquisition delivers “specialized specialist knowledge,
industrial scale, and excellent procedures, important success criteria in
diagnostics,” according to Jan T. Nielsen, investment director at A.P. Moller
Holding.
Unilabs employs 12,600 people and has over 200 labs
globally. One of the biggest European medical diagnostics firms, it delivers
COVID-19 tests to 15 countries, according to a statement from A.P. Moller
Holding.
Unilabs generated 15 billion Danish kroner (2.2 billion U.S.
dollars) in revenues and an operating profit of 4.5 billion Danish kroner
between September 2020 and September 2021, it said.
According to the statement, the parties have agreed not to
disclose the transaction details. The deal is now awaiting approval by the
relevant competition authorities.
