Block 58 partners prove more oil offshore Suriname
PARIS – TotalEnergies and APA Corp. have encountered oil with the Sapakara South-1 appraisal well on block 58 offshore Suriname.
The drillship Maersk Valiant drilled the Sapakara South-1
well in 850 m (2,789 ft) of water, 4 km (2.5 mi) southeast of the Sapakara West-1
well. It delivered 30 m (98.4 ft) net oil pay in a good-quality
Campano-Maastrichtian reservoir.
Previous discoveries, aside from Sapakara West, were Maka
Central, Kwaskwasi and Keskesi.
Kevin McLachlan, senior vice president Exploration at
TotalEnergies, said the result of the latest well was very similar to Keskesi
earlier this year.
“These repeated positive results confirm our strategy which
targets large resource volumes at low development costs…This encourages us to
continue our effort, jointly with our partner, to add to the resource base
while conducting the appraisal operations designed to prove a commercial oil
development.”
Operations will continue with the Maersk Valiant next
drilling the Bonboni-1 well.
