Maersk's ‘technical challenges’ with booking system not a cyber-attack
Maersk Line has confirmed that a failure of its booking systems was not due to a cyber-attack, but rather the result of a technical failure.
The Danish carrier’s booking site has been down for several
hours today, preventing customers from accessing information as well as booking
cargo. Although it is unclear what the problem is, Maersk said it would have
restored the site soon.
“I can confirm this is not related to any cyber-attack but
technical challenges that we are working to resolve as soon as possible.
Customers continue to have multiple ways to book with us including the Maersk
App, EDI, partner platforms (eg, INTTRA) or our customer service function,”
said a Maersk spokesman.
One Felixstowe-based NVOCC told The Loadstar this morning he
had been trying for several hours to get onto parts of the site.
“It’s a waste of time trying to ring anybody at Maersk these
days as it is a digital response or nothing, so the site has to be reliable and
this is not the first time that we have had difficulties in the past few
months,” he said.
However, according to an internal Maersk source, the current
digital glitch should be resolved soon.
“The e-business manager is ‘working on it’,” he said. “It
should all be up and running soon.”
