Zenith’s Matthew Pace refused to provide phone and laptop passwords after arrest

Zenith director Matthew Pace refused to provide the passwords for his phone and laptop upon being arrested in March, court was told today as the case against him and Lorraine Falzon continued.

Pace and Falzon were among 11 people, including disgraced former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s right-hand man Keith Schembri, arraigned in March over the money laundering case which rocked the country.

They are being charged with money laundering, corruption, and a slew of other financial crime offences.

In March, the Malta Financial Services Authority suspended the operations of Zenith Finance Limited and Zenith (Tied Insurance Intermediary) Limited after Pace and Falzon were granted bail over money laundering charges.

The two, along with their advisory firm, previously known as MFSP, have been charged with a slew of other financial crimes on Saturday. Their case is linked to alleged graft involving former OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri and former managing directors of Allied Newspapers Adrian Hillman and Vincent Buhagiar.

During the last sitting, the prosecution was told off by the court for summoning witnesses who had already testified in a magisterial inquiry into the money laundering allegations made against the pair.
