Melinda Gates aware of ‘some issues’ surrounding Bill Gates workplace behavior
Melinda Gates reportedly knew about some of her now-estranged husband Bill’s alleged workplace indiscretions during his tenure at Microsoft.
“Melinda was aware there were some issues, but it’s unclear
if she knew about all of it,” an insider told People Magazine.
“There definitely were steps taken along the way with
Microsoft at various times based on his behavior,” the source added.
The Microsoft co-founder — who announced his split from his
wife earlier this month — confirmed on Monday that he carried on a relationship
with an employee 20 years ago.
The company hired a law firm for an investigation after the
board became aware in 2019 of a letter from the woman that disclosed her
relationship with Bill over the course of several years, the Wall Street
Journal reported.
In a separate report from the New York Times, Bill was
accused of making unwanted advances on women who worked for him both at
Microsoft and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Bridgitt Arnold, a spokeswoman for Bill, insisted that he
had never mistreated any employees and blasted the “rumors and speculation”
surrounding his split.
“It is extremely disappointing that there have been so many
untruths published about the cause, the circumstances and the timeline of Bill
Gates’s divorce,” Arnold said in a statement to the newspaper.
“The rumors and speculation surrounding Gates’s divorce are
becoming increasingly absurd, and it’s unfortunate that people who have little
to no knowledge of the situation are being characterized as ‘sources.’ ”
