Glencore Ag rebrands as Viterra, March biggest ever rail month
GLENCORE Agriculture in Australia has rebranded to Viterra to fall into line with the global rebrand which occurred last November.
Viterra chief executive officer for Australia and New
Zealand Tim Krause said uniting the business under a single name strengthens
access to markets for Australian growers.
“Our global network of people, storage, handling and
transport assets and marketing offices creates significant value for our grower
customers in Australia by connecting them with consumers around the world,” Mr
Krause said.
Viterra operates in 37 countries and employs 17,500 staff
globally.
In Australia, Viterra has 800 employees, and originates,
store, handles, transport and markets a range of agriculture commodities
including grains, oilseeds, pulses and cotton.
It is one of Australia’s largest buyers of commodities
nationally, and purchases directly from growers as well as traders.
It owns and operates six ports and 48 up-country receival
sites in South Australia, and one in western Victoria, and is also one of
Australia’s largest importers of protein meals.
Viterra is one of Australia’s largest container-packing and
processing businesses, with facilities in southern and eastern Australia.
It publishes weekly receival reports during the SA
winter-crop harvest period, and monthly reports outside that.
Its most recent report was released last week, and said SA
growers had delivered over 6663 tonnes of grain into Viterra’s network between
April 5 and May 2.
“During April we shipped over 500,000t to 11 different
countries through all six of our export terminals,” chief operations officer
James Murray said.
At upcountry rail sites, Mr Murray said Viterra staff had
out-turned close to 200,000t during April.
“This follows 215,000t transported by rail in March, which
was our busiest ever month.
“We also transported grain through our network by road with
over 4500 truck movements this month.”
