Family of Israeli soccer star Zahavi robbed at gunpoint in their Amsterdam home

Israeli soccer player Eran Zahavi’s family were robbed at gunpoint, after masked burglars entered their home in Amsterdam, according to Dutch media reports.

Zahavi, who plays for Israel’s national team and Dutch soccer club PSV Eindhoven, was away at a game against Willem II in the city of Tilburg when the robbery took place.

His wife, Shay, and three children — an 8-year-old boy and 5-year-old twins — were at home. When Zahavi learned of the robbery, he immediately returned home from the game.

According to reports, the two robbers impersonated delivery personnel in order to enter the house. After the family opened the door for them, they threatened Zahavi’s wife and children with a gun, and proceeded to rob the home. No one was physically harmed, though the family was reportedly tied up.

Minutes after the robbery, Dutch police launched a helicopter in an attempt to locate the robbers. Eran was summoned for questioning by the Dutch police, and a forensic team was investigating the scene of the robbery.

Zehavi’s agent, Ronen Katsav, said that “Eran Zehavi left his team and went home following a violent robbery that his wife and children went through. When we can give more details, we will elaborate, but now we ask to respect the privacy of the player and his family,” according to Channel 12.
