Alexander Wang Says He's 'Learned' After Sexual Harassment Allegations
New York-based fashion designer Alexander Wang has responded, again, to a growing number of sexual assault and harassment allegations. Alleged victims have reported everything from Wang, who was a New York nightlife staple, being overly aggressive to groping their genitals without consent, and having sex with them when they were too intoxicated to consent. Wang had previously called the initial allegations "baseless," and said they were "fabricated." Now, as more has come out, his tenor has changed starkly.
"A number of individuals have come forward recently to
raise claims against me regarding my past personal behavior," he wrote in
a statement posted to Instagram. "I support their right to come forward,
and I've listened carefully to what they had to say. It was not easy for them
to share their stories, and I regret acting in a way that caused them pain.
While we disagree with some of the details of these personal interactions, I
will set a better example and use my visibility and influence to encourage
others to recognize harmful behaviors. Life is about learning and growth, and
now that I know better, I will do better."
Wang turned off his Instagram comments for the post. Outlets
like New York Times and The Cut have reported in-depth about the allegations
after they gained traction online, notably through social media watchdog
accounts like ShitModelManagement.
Lisa Bloom, who reportedly is representing 11 of those who
have allegations against Wang, also released a statement on social media.
"We have met with Alexander Wang and his team,"
she wrote. "My clients had the opportunity to speak their truth to him and
expressed their pain and hurt." In her career, Bloom has advised Harvey
Weinstein amid sexual abuse allegations and represented women making
allegations against Fox News' Bill O'Reilly.
"We acknowledge Mr. Wang's apology and we are moving
forward," she continued. "We have no further comment on this
matter."
